I will meet with you one or two times to get know you, your goals for treatment, and the specific nature of your concerns, as well as what has been—and has not been—helpful to you in the past. After this, I will suggest various possible approaches to treatment and together we will sift through them to find the one(s) that feel right for you.
I have had training in a variety of theoretical approaches of psychotherapy including cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, family systems therapy, couples therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. The type of treatment I recommend will depend in part on the nature of your problem(s), the ways that you best learn about yourself, and the ways that you have successfully reduced your distress and addressed your problems in the past. It is also possible that I may recommend other types of treatment for which I do not have appropriate training; in such cases, I would refer you to a colleague who has a particular expertise that best fits you and the nature of your problem.
My areas of expertise include treating:
In addition, I have been certified in clinical hypnosis, and may also recommend that we use hypnosis as a way to make our work together more efficient. To learn more about hypnosis click here and here. If this is something that interests you, please let me know during our sessions. I also have training in using the Flash Technique; if you are interested in using that, please let me know. I use the Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work with couples, a well-researched method for treating couples, as well as other couples therapy approaches, as warranted. I have also been certified to treat adults with ADHD, and in discernment counseling, which helps couples considering separating.
(Please note that I am not an "in-network provider" for any insurance plans, which means that you may receive anywhere from zero to partial reimbursement for our sessions, depending on your plan and whether you are able to obtain "pre-authorization" for our work together. You may want to contact your health insurance provider before you contact me to find out whether they will reimburse you for visits--I would be an "out-of-network provider." If they will at least partially reimburse you, you should determine whether you have a deductible as well as co-payments.)
I look forward to working with you.
